George F. Shipp, CFA

George founded what is now the Sterling Capital Equity Opportunities group in December 2000, after serving for 18 years as a sell-side equity analyst with the broker-dealer BB&T Scott & Stringfellow. From an initial $1 million seeding, the group's assets under management have grown to over $5 billion. George serves as the lead portfolio manager for the Equity Income and Special Opportunities strategies, and has since their inception. George is a graduate of the University of Virginia where he received a B.A. in Biology, and an MBA from its Darden Graduate School of Business in 1982. He is a CFA charterholder.
